My favorite poem by William Carlos Williams is Spring and All only because it has so many meanings to it. The
thing that interests me is how William can personify inhuman objects. If you read it as if he were talking about the trees
in spring, you’d see that he allowed them to ‘grip’ and ‘awaken’.
Also the tone of how this poem was written is completely changes with the season. He starts the poem off as if it’s
gloomy just like winter, but later as spring approaches, he gives the poem a more ‘happier’ feeling to it towards
the end.
Another thing I like about this poem is that
there are many possible meanings to this poem, so there are no right or wrong ways of thinking about how to interpret this.
